The City of Peru Electric Department is currently seeking applicants for an Apprentice Lineman. This position requires the ability to construct, install, repair, maintain and relocate overhead and/or underground electric distribution systems, including conduits, power cables, vaults, manholes, wires, transformers, circuit breakers, switches, service drops, streetlights, traffic signals and utility poles. The program is a four-year series of progressive training positions that include coursework and some travel for field training.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED equivalent and possess a valid Illinois Class A CDL drivers license or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of employment. Candidates must also possess the ability to climb wood utility poles using linemen’s hooks; interpret circuit maps, blueprints and work orders; learn basic electricity; and operate, maintain and repair electric industry equipment, tools and hardware.
